POSTPOSITION.

The preposition (pa...in) is often followed by a noun and another preposition to form a split prepositional phrase,which is translated as a single preposition in English .The sentences below illustrate how a noun can b sandwiched between two prepositions . The preposition which the noun is called a postposition in Pashto.

EXAMPLES:

English....Where is your brother?
He is in the house.

Urdu........Tumhara bhai khahan hai?
Wo ghar main hai.

Pashto....Sta wror cherta de?
Hagha pa kur de.

English...Who is in the classroom?
The teacher is in the classroom.

Urdu.....Kon class main hai?
Or..Class main kon hain.
Ustaad class main hai.

Pashto..Sok pa class k de?
Or......Pa class k sok dee?
Ustaz pa class k de.

On...Pa ...Bande.

EXAMPLE:

English...Is the pen in the suitcase?
No its on the suitcase.

Urdu........Qalm sandoq k andar hai?
Nahi, wo sandoq k oper hai.

Pashto....Qalm pa bakx k de?
Na , pa bakx bandy de.

Under...da_lande.

EXAMPLE:

English....Where is the pencil?
The pencil is under the table.

Urdu...Pencil kahan hai?
Pencil maiz k neechy hai.

Pashto...Pencil cherta de?
Pencil da maiz lande de.

English-----Hi how are you?

Urdu -------Salam kesy ho?

Pashto------salam sanga ye?

English -----Not good,I lost my wallet.

Urdu--------Thek nai hon ,mera batwaa kho geya hai.

Pashto-------kha na yam, zama batwa roka shwa

English-------Ohh ,that's too bad.Was it stolen?

Urdu----------Ohh ,yeh tu bohat bura howa .Keya yeah chorri ho geya hai ?

Pashto--------ohh, da khu der bad oshu, aya da pata shaway da?

English--------No I think it came out of my pocket when I was in taxi.

Urdu----------Nahi Meray kheyal main jab main taxi main tha tu yeh meri jaib say girr geya .

Pashto--------na zama pa khyal za che kala taxi k om da zama da jaib na prewatay da

English--------Is there anything I can do?

Urdu----------Keya main kuch kar sakta hon ?

Pashto--------aya za sa kolay sham?

English--------Can I borrow some money.

Urdu----------Keya main kuch pasay oodhar ly sakta hon ?

Pashto--------aya za lagay pese qaraz aghasty sham?

English-------Sure how much you need?

Urdu---------Zaror ,ap ko kitny chiay?

Pashto------blkul , staso somra pakar dee

English------1000 rupees.

Urdu---------Aik hazar rupay.

Pashto-------yao zar roupay

English-------That's no problem.

Urdu--------Yeh koi masla nai hai.

Pashto------da sa masla na da

English------I'll pay you back on Friday.

Urdu---------Main ap ko jumay ko dy don ga.

Pashto-------za ba da taso ta da jumay pa wraz darkam

English------What are you going to do now?

Urdu---------Ab tum keya karo gay /karny lagy ho /karny ja rahy ho?

Pashto------ os ba ta sa k/ k lagya ye/kolo ta rawan ye?

English------I am going to market

Urdu--------Main market ja raha hon .

Pashto------za bazar/market ta rawan yam

English------If you can wait a minute I can go with you .

Urdu---------Agar ap aik minute intezaar karain tou main ap k sath chalta hon /ja sakta hon.

Pashto---------yao minute sabr oka nu za tasara zam/ tlay sham

English -------Ok I'll wait for you.

Urdu-----------Acha main ap ka intezaar karon ga.

Pashto ---------kha za ba staso intizar kom
